Thomas Ewers was born in Burrough Green in 1898 (Newmarket Q4-1898 3B:488), son of David and Caroline EWERS (nee ?? ).

1901 census...Aged 2, he was living "near Running Horse", Burrough Green , with his father David EWERS [57] plasterer, born Ashendon, Bucks; his mother Caroline [41] born Little Wilbraham; brother Arthur [15] plasterer, born Stetchworth; sisters Minne [14] born Exning and Mary A [8] born Stetchworth (deaf and dumb) and brother Horace [4] born Stetchworth

1911 census...Aged 12, he was at Back Lane, Burrough Green with his parents and brother Horace. Of the eight children, 3 had died


On 25th April 1918 the 13th Battalion, Tank Corps was in action between St Jans Cappel and Kemmel either side of the French/Belgium border, heavily engaged during the Second Battle of Kemmel Hill. This German attack was the opening of Operation Georgette. 13th Battalion, Tank Corps suffered 30 casualties on this day.
